Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Reporter for the Daily Nexus, the student newspaper at UC Santa Barbara in California.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, believe it or not. I used to write poetry on my Bobe's typewriter as a child.
How is social media changing news?
We no longer have to rely on the bromidic reports of stuck-in-their-ways correspondents to break news. Now everyone has a voice.

We are the guardians of transparency, the megaphones for the marginalized and the sparks that ignite the fires of fundamental change.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Wow. Everything from DSLRs, my laptop (of course) and H2 Zoom audio recorder. But let's not forget my own two feet!
Who do you wish followed you?
A toughy... but I'm going with Arwa Damon of CNN. She's incredible.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I'm a sucker for a good story.

The Los Angeles Times Homicide Report -- Writing stories about those who normally get swept under the proverbial rug of L.A.'s gang violence.
