Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I used to think they were cool and retro when I was thirteen or so. So my parents bought me one for Christmas. I still own it!

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means those in power feel less powerful, for the good of the citizenry.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Microsoft Office is useful. I'm getting to grips with PhotoShop and can use audience-tracking programmes like CrowdTangle and LocoWise

Why did you become a journalist?

I read Vietnam reporter Jon Swain's account and I fell in love with the romantic idea of the erudite, nomadic hack. I (hope) I am wiser now.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes. I was the editor of my newspaper. We released one issue (35-pages!) before funding from the school was cut.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I was one of the first to break the OULC antisemitism scandal for HuffPost. I knew someone affected and nabbed the story with a quote.

What's your favorite drink?

Gin and Tonic in the summer, London Pride in the winter
