Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death and premature deaths in Bhutan, accounting for 69% and 71% of all deaths in 2014 and 2019, respectively. The benefits of physical activity in health promotion, prevention of NCDs, and health benefits of physical activity in people living with NCDs are well documented. However, many Bhutanese are adopting sedentary lifestyles due to urbanisation, motorised transportation, and rural–urban migration.
