Lipid oxidation controls peptide self-assembly near membranes through a surface attraction mechanism
Lipid oxidation controls peptide self-assembly near membranes through a surface attraction mechanism† The self-assembly of peptides into supramolecular structures has been linked to neurodegenerative diseases but has also been observed in functional roles. Peptides are physiologically exposed to crowded environments of biomacromolecules, and particularly cellular membrane lipids. Previous research has shown that membranes can both accelerate and inhibit peptide self-assembly.
Identification of a Two‐Coordinate Iron(I)-Oxalate Complex
Abstract Three groups (@AsmisGroup, @ThomasHeine14, @AbelBernd) from @123H_RTG at @UniLeipzig successfully team up to identify a two-coordinate Fe(I)–complex in solution.
Study on solid electrolyte catalyst poisoning in solid acid fuel cells
Study on solid electrolyte catalyst poisoning in solid acid fuel cells Solid acid fuel cells operate at intermediate temperatures utilizing a solid electrolyte (CsH2PO4, CDP). However, relatively little is known about the degradation mechanism and the topic is rarely addressed. Phosphate poisoning of the platinum catalyst is a well-known problem for fuel cells working with H3PO4 as electrolyte. With CsH2PO4 as electrolyte, phosphate poisoning is therefore likely to occur as well.

Plasma-etched functionalized graphene as a metal-free electrocatalyst in solid acid fuel cells
Plasma-etched functionalized graphene as a metal-free electrocatalyst in solid acid fuel cells Oxygen and nitrogen plasma treatment were applied to produce graphene with abundant edges, oxygen functional groups, and nitrogen doping. The plasma-etched graphene was then used as a metal-free electrocatalyst in a solid acid fuel cell. Scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the graphene layers.
Macromolecular organic compounds from the depths of Enceladus
Analogue TOF mass spectrum recorded with the liquid microbeam ionization setup (see Methods, ‘Laser dispersion analogue experiments for icy dust impacts’ and Extended Data Fig. 9) to simulate the formation of tropylium and benzene cations and their fragmentation ions at impact speeds78 of the order of 10 km s−1. The concentrations of benzoic acid and benzyl alcohol are 3 g l−1 and 0.2 g l−1, respectively.
In situ determination of the electrochemically active platinum surface area: key to improvement of solid acid fuel cells
The electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) is an important parameter when investigating and developing electrodes for fuel cells. Various methods exist to determine the ECSA of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells both in and ex situ. However, for intermediate-temperature solid acid fuel cells (SAFC), a quantitative method to determine the ECSA has not yet been established.
Coated triangular Ag nanoprisms as optical sensors: Control of stability and spectral response with a thermo-responsive polymer
Silver nanoprisms (AgNPrs) have been coated with end-group functionalized thermo-responsive poly N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) synthesized via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerisation.
