Chlorophyll extremes during a surface marine heatwave in a seasonally stratified shelf sea
Abstract Marine heatwaves are increasing in frequency and intensity globally against a background of long-term climate warming, yet their impacts on subsurface biogeochemistry in temperate shelf seas remain poorly constrained. Here, we present high-resolution in situ observations of chlorophyll during a Category IV marine heatwave in June 2023, collected using an autonomous ocean glider in a seasonally stratified shelf sea.
Environmental controls on the detectability of hydrodynamic changes induced by offshore wind farm structures
Abstract A combination of model simulations and field observations collected in 2023 and 2024 near Seagreen, Scotland’s largest Offshore Wind Farm (OWF), is used to assess when, where and by how much (physical) changes induced by OWFs structures become detectable and environmentally relevant.
Fishing, Offshore Wind Energy, Climate Change and Marine Spatial Planning: Is it Possible to Plan for a Best use of Space?
This research was originally published in Ecological Solutions and Evidence. Whole Ecosystem Analysis The significant expansion of offshore wind farms (OWF) is a core element of the world’s decarbonisation strategy. However, in the urgency to meet net zero, care must be exercised to avoid exchanging one environmental crisis for another.
Ecosystem indicators: predicting population responses to combined climate and anthropogenic changes in shallow seas
Introduction In the well-studied North Sea, temperature rises and other physical changes like ocean acidification, reduced oxygen and sea-level rise are having an impact throughout the food web, with effects on abundance, distribution and biodiversity seen in plankton (Edwards et al. 2020), fish (Wright et al. 2020), seabirds (Mitchell et al. 2020) and mammals (Evans and Waggitt 2020).
Pupil dilation evaluation of two mydriatic dosing profiles delivered by the Optejet®
Therapeutic DeliveryVol. 14, No. 2 Short CommunicationOpen Access Abstract Aim: To compare pupil dilation achieved by a single microdose versus two microdoses of tropicamide-phenylephrine fixed combination (TR-PH FC) delivered by the Optejet®. Patients & methods: In this assessor-masked, crossover, noninferiority study, 60 volunteers underwent two treatment visits and received either one (∼8 μl) or two sprays (∼16 μl) of TR-PH FC to both eyes in randomly assigned order.
