Why did you become a journalist?
Writing is the main thing I'm good at. I wanted to use that ability for something that had the potential to make the world a better place.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes. I wrote theater reviews. I won an award from the Sun Sentinel for them. $80! I decided I liked getting paid to write.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
A story for German public radio on opioid addiction in New York. Best quote: "We don't have an opioid crisis. We have a poverty crisis."
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Pay your dues, but not too many.
