1. Introduction The Kolmogorov 5/3-law for the energy spectrum E(k) of homogeneous isotropic turbulence is almost universally known [1–4]. Not so well known is the corresponding energy spectrum for turbulence in a stratified fluid obtained by Bolgiano [5] and Obukhov [6] about 50 years ago. They obtained a spectrum E(k) ∝ k−11/5 for the stably stratified fluid.
