Treadmill exercise induced differential miRNA expression in mouse femoral exosomes and upregulated osteogenesis-related miRNAs
ABSTRACT Purpose Treadmill exercise promotes bone growth and remodeling in mice. Exosomes are key mediators of intercellular communication; bone or osteocyte-derived exosomes deliver miRNAs to osteoblasts to influence osteogenesis. Therefore, the study aims to profile miRNAs in femoral bone-derived exosomes of mice trained on a treadmill, and the exosomal osteogenesis-related miRNAs were identified through bioinformatics analysis and molecular biology experiments.
Experimental demonstration of visual locating the underwater wireless optical communication device by using the communication signal as a guiding light
Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is suited to transmit large volumes of data for ocean engineering. In practical applications, due to the quite significant attenuation of light in water, the transmission distance of UWOC is shorter. Furthermore, because light travels along straight lines, the two UWOC devices in a system should stay in the communication range and point to each other to establish an optical link.
Bubble-raft inspired shape-assembly in flying robot swarm for uniform formation and obstacle traversal
Abstract Natural swarms can move cohesively while continuously reshaping their spatial shape, yet reproducing this behavior with large flying robot swarms in obstacle environments remains difficult, especially in achieving uniformity and safety. Here, we present a distributed 3D shape-assembly controller for flying robot swarms that forms arbitrary target shapes with uniform coverage and safe inter-robot distance.

Experimental demonstration of visually locating the terminal for an underwater wireless optical communication system based on the spatial distribution characteristics of guiding lights
Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is a useful way to transmit a large volume of data in the ocean. In application, because light travels in a straight line, the two devices in the UWOC system should point to each other to establish an optical transmission link first. To make this process easier, it is helpful to carry at least one of these kinds of devices on an underwater robot.
Experimental demonstration of positioning the cooperation terminal for underwater wireless optical communication based on visual navigation
Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is a useful way to transmit a large volume of data in ocean engineering. In application, one of the UWOC terminals is usually carried on an underwater robot to actively adjust its orientation and position to establish an optical link, which requires the mobile terminal to locate the cooperation partner. At a short communication distance, visual navigation is a preferred method to measure the position.
Auditory stimuli extend the temporal window of visual integration by modulating alpha-band oscillations
Abstract In the multisensory environment, the interactions between inputs from different sensory modalities are not fully understood. Here, we conducted an electroencephalography (EEG) experiment to investigate how auditory stimuli shape the temporal window of visual integration in human subjects. Participants were presented with two consecutive visual flashes, either accompanied by an auditory beep or without, and were asked to report their perception of one or two flashes.
Application of EfficientNet and YOLOv5 Model in Submarine Pipeline Inspection and a New Decision-Making System
3. Results and Discussion 3.1. Characterization of Sample The data in this study came from image frames of video collected by ROV inspection of a submarine pipeline. Once the left, middle and right image frames were obtained, the middle image was preprocessed, then all the extracted images were labeled by two classifications and event detection. The images are shown in Figure 3a–c.
Preparation of chitosan/cellulose composite copper catalyst for green synthesis in the construction of C-Si bond in aqueous phase
Preparation of chitosan/cellulose composite copper catalyst for green synthesis in the construction of C-Si bond in aqueous phase Yaoyao Zhang, Biao Han, Zelang Zhang, Xue Zhao, Weishuang Li, Bojie Li and Lei Zhu Abstract In this work, a new kind of green chitosan/cellulose composite copper gelatinous microbeads (CC@Cu) was prepared by crosslinking method and could perform as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the silylation of α,β-unsaturated acceptors in aqueous phase under mild...

Piezoelectric Enhancement of Piezoceramic Nanoparticle-Doped PVDF/PCL Core-Sheath Fibers
Abstract : Electrospinning is considered to be an efficient method to prepare piezoelectric thin films because of its ability to transform the phase of the polymers. A core-sheath structure can endow fibers with more functions and properties. In this study, fibers with a core-sheath structure were prepared using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) included with nanoparticles (NPs) as the shell layer and polycaprolactone (PCL) as the core layer.
Influence of a watertight optical window with plain glass on the light distribution of an LED transmitter for underwater wireless optical communications
Abstract Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) has attracted much attention recently, thanks to its high transmission speed. In many UWOC applications, the transmitter is based on light emitting diodes (LEDs). This is because it has up to a 120° divergence angle, which is helpful with establishing the communication link more easily. However, the light field of such a transmitter is affected by watertight encapsulation in practice.
Experimental demonstration of a transmitter with a 50° divergence angle, 50 Mbps rate, and 476 mW optical power for underwater wireless optical communication based on an engineered diffuser
Abstract In practical application of underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC), the transmitter should have a larger divergence angle to make it easier to establish a communication link, besides high modulated rate and high optical power. Laser diodes (LD) are suitable to design such transmitter, thanks to their simpler structure and much faster switching speed. However, it is difficult to implement for widespread use in ocean engineering because of its quite small divergence angle.
Influence of watertight optical window with plain glass on receiving field for underwater wireless optical communication
Abstract Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) has attracted much attention recently due to its superiority of high transmission speed. In many UWOC applications, to establish communication links easier, the receiver has quite a wide field. However, the performance of the receiving field is affected by watertight encapsulation in practice, especially when the optical window is produced with plain glass.
Let-7i-5p functions as a putative osteogenic differentiation promoter by targeting CKIP-1
Abstract MicroRNA (miRNA) is an endogenous regulatory small molecule RNA. Growing evidence shows that miRNA plays an important regulatory role in gene expression. Although miRNA is a more intensive regulatory noncoding RNA in recent years, few studies have investigated the regulation of targeting genes involved in bone repair.
Apparent Motion Induces Activity Suppression in Early Visual Cortex and Impairs Visual Detection
Research Articles, Behavioral/Cognitive Lu Shen, Biao Han and Floris P. de Lange Journal of Neuroscience 8 July 2020, 40 (28) 5471-5479; DOI: https://doi.org/10.1523/JNEUROSCI.0563-20.2020 Abstract Apparent motion (AM) is induced when two stationary visual stimuli are presented in alternating sequence. Intriguingly, AM leads to an impaired detectability of stimuli along the AM path (i.e., AM-induced masking).

A two-Volt aqueous supercapacitor from porous dehalogenated carbon
Aqueous supercapacitors were among the most promising techniques for clean and renewable energy storage yet limited by their low specific energy arisen from water splitting issue. Herein, water splitting-inactive electrode materials of mesoporous carbon were fabricated through the dehalogenation of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) by sodium ethoxide (EtONa).
