Biju Mathew’s Biography

Biju Mathew is an internationally renowned radio broadcaster who have won several international and national radio awards.
RECOGNITIONS/ AWARDS WON – INTERNATIONAL :
Asia Pacific Broadcast Unions ABU Prize 2015 for the programmeNilkkam Ivarkkoppam` written and produced by Biju Mathew. First Prize

   Reinhard Kuene International Radio Award 2013 for the best radio documentary promting rural development. First Prize

12th Iran International Radio Festival Award for the short feature written and produced by 
BijuMathew. 2012. First Prize

Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union ABU PRIZE 2011 for the documentary An autobiography of a 
Sparrow, written and produced by Biju Mathew. 2011.First Prize.

Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union – UNESCAP Programme Award for a documentary series – Before darkness Falls, written and produced by Biju Mathew . 2008.

Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union UNES Programme Award for a documentary – When Time Stands Still, written and produced by Biju Mathew . 2011.

European Union Media Award 2006 for excellence in HIV/AIDS reporting. 2006. First Prize.

Programme Production Bursary of Thomson Foundation, UK.2005.

Finalist position in the ABU Prize 2005 Competition held in Vietnam. 2005.

A radio Documentary “Aranmula, God’s own Village” was selected for broadcast in the SAARC
countries under SAARC Audio-Visual Exchange Programme. This documentary was broadcast in SAARC countries on 15th January 2006.

Another documentary “Onam the festival of hope and homecoming” was also selected for broadcast in SAARC countries as part of SAVE Programme in 2006.

Documentaries written and produced by me represented All India Radio in several International Competitions/ radio festivals. This include 7th International Radio Festival of Iran 2006, 8th International Radio Festival of Iran 2007, 9th International Radio Festival of Iran 2008, CBA World Bank Competition for best development programme 2005, CBA World Bank Competition for best development programme 2008, International University of Radio and Television Radio Grand Prix, Paris 2006, University of Radio and Television Radio Grand Prix, Paris 2008, 10th International Radio Festival of Iran 2009, University of Radio and Television Radio Grand Prix, Paris 2011, 12th International Radio Festival of Iran 2011 etc.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITIONS :

Was the member of the International Final Jury of Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Prize 
2012 held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during September 2012 which is considered to be a rare 
honour by broadcasters around the world.

Was the opening speaker in the 4th International Radio Forum held at Zibekaner, IRAN in 2012 
and talked on the subject,  Radio in the digital age- integrating social media in broadcast.

Presented a paper in the ABU workshop held in connection with the ABU General Assembly in

Hanoi, Vietnam, 2005.

Akashvani National Award, 1989 for the Best Radio Documentary,

Akashvani National Award 1990 for the best Family Welfare programme

Akashvani National Award 1993 for the best Radio Drama.

Public Service Broadcasting National Award 2006.

Akashvani National Award 2011 for the best special topic documentary.
    Akashvani National Award 2013 for the best  Innovative Programme for the docu-drama ‘A Day without Radio’  written and produced by Biju Mathew. 
IMA National Media Award for health reporting 2015.
Akashvani National Award 2016 for the best  documentary – ‘My Earth’  written and produced by Biju Mathew.
