1 Introduction Over the past two decades, major fungal pathogens have diverted from being viewed as opportunistic commensals to key causes of life-threatening infections with rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR) [1]. This change is a result of convergent global pressures that have produced previously unseen ecological niches for fungal growth, adaptation, and resistance acquisition [2].

Introduction Immunodeficiency renders organisms highly vulnerable to a wide range of pathogens, as demonstrated by the emergence of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, first identified in humans in the early 1980s (Bosma et al., 1983). Development of mice that lack the adaptive immune system is a key resource to understand disease in animals and humans (Walsh et al., 2017).
