1 Introduction Twinned crystals share a coherent interface—known as the twin plane—along which their lattices exhibit mirror symmetry without bond disruption. The position of every atom in the twin plane is coherent with the lattice of both twin crystals. As William L. Bragg first observed in 1924, aragonite (CaCO3) frequently contains twinned crystals.[1] Each mineral exhibits specific twin lattice relationships, known as twinning laws.
