There are small businesses in Chattanooga and across Tennessee that are prohibited by state law from opening their doors on Sunday. This law is out of date, inconsistent and potentially harmful to these retail store owners. Currently in Tennessee, beer, wine and spirits can be sold any day of the week at a number of places, including restaurants, sporting events, hotels, theaters, convention centers, airports, retirement centers, tourist resorts and many others.
I am a cancer survivor. I’ve experienced chemotherapy first hand, and I’ve spent time sitting with other patients during their treatments. There is nothing easy about cancer. It is physically, mentally and emotionally draining, not only for the patient but for the caregiver. At times, it takes everything inside you just to fight it. In addition to the exhausting stresses, there can also be an enormous financial burden.
We all have been affected by cancer. Whether you’re like me and have fought it and come out on the other side stronger for it, or you’ve been a caregiver to a loved one, or you’ve lost a relative or friend — cancer is tough. I vividly remember sitting beside other patients during my hours of chemotherapy treatments watching them get sick.
