Venezuela earthquakes death toll surpasses 5,000
CARACAS (AP) — The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that shook Venezuela last month rose to 5,069 late on Friday, local authorities said. The interim government of President Delcy Rodriguez added in a statement that the number of injured remains unchanged at 16,740, as in the past 11 days. Ongoing recovery and debris-clearing operations have led to the increase in the death toll, particularly in the coastal state of La Guaira, the hardest hit by the quakes close to the Caribbean Sea.
A 7.3 earthquake hits Mexico-Guatemala border with no immediate damage reported
TAPACHULA, México (AP) — A strong earthquake struck the southern Mexican Pacific coast on Friday, right on the border with Guatemala, and was felt from Mexico City to El Salvador. Authorities did not report any severe damage or casualties in any country. Two people were reported injured in southern Mexico.

Hamilton County defendant sentenced to life without parole after dramatic conviction reaction
A Hamilton County jury sentenced Jamal Adams, who was removed from proceedings after a dramatic reaction to his conviction, to life in prison without the possibility of release late Friday. After over two days of jurors deliberating, including a point at which they declared a deadlock, they convicted Adams, 34, of the first-degree murder of Matthew Overby, a father of six. Jurors also found Adams guilty of witness coercion, reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm by a felon.
