Automated assessment of the ulcerative colitis endoscopic index of severity using a multi-task deep learning model
Abstract Assessment of the Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity (UCEIS) is limited by subjectivity and interobserver variability. We developed UC-MTLNet, a multi-task deep learning model to predict UCEIS descriptors, total score, endoscopic remission, and severity strata. This multicenter diagnostic study included 405 patients and 10,269 white-light endoscopic images from a development cohort, a prospectively collected internal test cohort, and an independent external test cohort.
Charge density wave in a band insulator
|
Abstract Charge-density-wave implies a periodic modulation of the charge density. Typically observed in metallic systems, charge-density-wave arise from Fermi surface instabilities, resulting in the total or partial gapping of the Fermi surface. Here, we present experimental evidence for a charge-density-wave state emerging in a band insulator which has no Fermi surface. The bulk and surface of our material platform, \({\rm{\alpha }}\)-Bi4Br4, is gapped over the entire Brillouin zone.

Tunable symmetry breaking in a hexagonal-stacked moiré magnet
Abstract Symmetry plays a central role in defining magnetic phases, making tunable symmetry breaking across magnetic transitions highly desirable for discovering non-trivial magnetism. Magnetic moiré superlattices, formed by twisting two-dimensional magnetic crystals, have been theoretically proposed and experimentally explored as platforms for unconventional magnetic states.
Cone-beam CT-derived parenchymal blood volume imaging in transarterial chemoembolization for hypovascular hepatic metastases: a case report
Abstract This case report describes the innovative integration of Cone-beam CT (CBCT) – derived parenchymal blood volume (PBV) mapping with embolization guidance technology to successfully direct the combined treatment of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and cryoablation of in a 70-year-old female with recurrent, hypovascular gallbladder liver metastases.
Drug-induced pigmentary changes: A pharmacovigilance analysis based on
Key Messages What is already known on this topic Drug-induced pigmentary changes are increasingly recognized but remain poorly characterized in large-scale surveillance studies. Previous literature has focused primarily on case reports or small series, and labeling for many implicated drugs is incomplete. What this study adds This FAERS-based pharmacovigilance analysis identified strong disproportionality signals linking numerous widely used drugs to skin hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation.
Interstitial Atoms and the Frustrated and Allowed Structural Transitions Principle: Tunability in the Electronic Structure of AuCu3‐type Frameworks in Dy4T1−xGa12 (T = Ag, Ir)
1 Introduction Just as the frontier molecular orbitals (MOs) of a molecule largely determine its reactivity,[1] the crystal orbitals near the Fermi energy for a solid state structure play a dominant role in its physical properties. This analogy extends to the shared difficulty in preparing compounds with exotic electronic structures in both molecules and solids, the geometrical structure is often driven to create the largest gap possible between filled and empty electronic levels.
Large exciton binding energy in a bulk van der Waals magnet from quasi-1D electronic localization - Nature Communications
Abstract Excitons, bound electron-hole pairs, influence the optical properties in strongly interacting solid-state systems and are typically most stable and pronounced in monolayer materials. Bulk systems with large exciton binding energies, on the other hand, are rare and the mechanisms driving their stability are still relatively unexplored.
A highly efficient 3D/0D CdIn2S4/Cu2O photoanode with a p-n type heterojunction for boosted photoelectrochemical water splitting under visible light irradiation - Journal of Materials Chemistry C (RSC Publishing)
A highly efficient 3D/0D CdIn2S4/Cu2O photoanode with a p–n type heterojunction for boosted photoelectrochemical water splitting under visible light irradiation† Cadmium indium sulfide (CdIn2S4) is a promising photoanode material owing to its narrow bandgap and appropriate band edge position. However, the H2 production performance of photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is still limited by the rapid recombination and poor transport ability of charge carriers.

Extraordinary phase transition revealed in a van der Waals antiferromagnet - Nature Communications
Abstract While the surface-bulk correspondence has been ubiquitously shown in topological phases, the relationship between surface and bulk in Landau-like phases is much less explored. Theoretical investigations since 1970s for semi-infinite systems have predicted the possibility of the surface order emerging at a higher temperature than the bulk, clearly illustrating a counterintuitive situation and greatly enriching phase transitions.
Respective dependencies of conventional and spontaneous exchange biases on spin glass
A conventional exchange bias manifests itself as a hysteresis loop shift in systems with an interface between a ferromagnet and an antiferromagnet after field cooling. Due to the complicated magnetic interactions at the interface, a spin glass with disordered and frustrated spin configurations is generated, resulting in the dependencies of the conventional exchange bias mechanism on a spin glass still being elusive.
Quantum transport response of topological hinge modes - Nature Physics
Abstract Electronic topological phases are typified by the conducting surface states that exist on the boundary of an insulating three-dimensional bulk. While the transport response of the two-dimensional surface states has been studied, the quantum response of the one-dimensional hinge modes has not been demonstrated.
Clinical characteristics of abruptly increased paediatric patients with Omicron BF.7 or BA.5.2 in Beijing - Virology Journal
The study protocol was reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee of the Capital Institute of Pediatrics (Approval Number: SHERLLM2023006). This single-centre, prospective study was conducted at Children’s Hospital of Capital Institute of Pediatrics in Beijing during 18 Nov to 6 Dec, 2022. For all paediatric outpatients with symptoms of acute respiratory tract infection (ARI), nucleic acid tests (NATs) for SARS-CoV-2 were required and half of them were screened for other respiratory pathogens.

A large anomalous Hall conductivity induced by Weyl nodal lines in Fe70Al30
Weyl semimetal has attracted much attention in recent years due to its anomalous transport phenomena and potential applications. In Weyl semimetal, Weyl points with opposite chirality appear in pairs, which play the role of sources and sink in momentum space. Weyl points usually result in exotic properties, such as Fermi arcs surface state,1–31. B. Q. Lv, H. M. Weng, B. B. Fu, X. P. Wang, H. Miao, J. Ma, P. Richard, X. C. Huang, L. X. Zhao, G. F. Chen, Z. The Impact of D-Dimer on Postoperative Deep Vein Thrombosis in Patients with Thoracolumbar Fracture Caused by High-Energy Injuries
Introduction Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a common and serious complication in trauma patients, especially in patients with musculoskeletal trauma.1 Previous studies have shown that the incidence of DVT after trauma was reported to be between 9.1% to 11.1%, and in serious cases, it may cause pulmonary embolism (PE) after trauma.2–5 DVT should be prevented and treated in time, otherwise, it can increase the extension of hospitalization time, and its associated costs, affecting the recovery...
Ultralow magnetic damping of a common metallic ferromagnetic film
Abstract For most magnetic materials, ultralow damping is of key importance for spintronic and spin-orbitronic applications, but the number of materials suitable for charge-based spintronic and spin-orbitronic applications is limited because of magnon-electron scattering.
Sale of antibiotics without a prescription at community pharmacies in urban China: a multicentre cross-sectional survey
Objectives: To quantify sales of antibiotics without a medical prescription and to assess the quality of pharmacy services in relation to the antibiotics sold in community pharmacies in urban China. Methods: A multicentre cross-sectional survey of community pharmacies was undertaken in 2015 using the simulated client method.
