1 INTRODUCTION Same-sex sexual behavior (SSB) has been found to occur in many vertebrate and invertebrate taxa (Bailey & Zuk, 2009; Monk et al., 2019; Scharf & Martin, 2013). Furthermore, it may exist in many more species for which it has not been observed yet or has been misidentified as different-sex sexual behavior (DSB) due to a lack of obvious sexual dimorphism (Bailey & Zuk, 2009). SSB is often viewed as an evolutionary paradox since it is assumed to have no reproductive benefits.
