Rock Hill man killed in early morning shooting after pursuing car break-in suspect

ROCK HILL — A Rock Hill man was killed in an early morning shooting June 4 after chasing a person who had entered his car, according to the Rock Hill Police Department. The shooting happened at 4:40 a.m. in the 1100 block of Amelia Avenue when the victim, a 39-year-old man, saw someone inside his vehicle. As the victim came outside, the person ran away. The victim chased after them before shots were fired, police said. Officers arrived to find the victim in the yard of a home on Amelia Avenue.

Major restaurant operator plans to open $9M Rock Hill distribution site, will create 80 jobs

ROCK HILL — A subsidiary of Darden Restaurants, one of the largest restaurant operators in the United States, plans to invest more than $9 million to establish a Rock Hill distribution site. GMRI Inc. plans to invest approximately $9.35 million into a distribution site at the Karis Cold Storage Facility, located at 3623 Lazy Hawk Road. It’s expected to create 80 jobs over five years with an average hourly wage of $28.10.

Revolutionary War battlefield in SC makes list of America’s Most Endangered Historic Places

A Revolutionary War battlefield site in rural Lancaster County has been listed as one of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Hanging Rock Battlefield is the site of the Battle of Hanging Rock in August 1780, which was part of the American patriots’ drive to reclaim the Southern colonies after the British Siege of Charleston earlier that year.
