What was your first job as a journalist?
I worked at the Island Packet, a small but feisty daily in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

I think that is changing all the time.

Why did you become a journalist?
I enjoy constantly learning about new things and helping consumers make sense of science.

Nope.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I'm most proud of my work reporting on the opioid abuse epidemic and efforts to help prevent opioid overdoses.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't get pigeon-holed into traditional media jobs. There are growing opportunities for journalists in nontraditional settings.
