Within the first few minutes of CAPTAIN MILO, the boundaries between Milo’s world and our own begin to disappear. What starts as a child playing at a hotel pool quickly draws us into his imagination, his loneliness and his sense of possibility. Though the action is largely confined to a hotel room and a brief scene at the pool, Milo’s world is anything but confined. In just 12 minutes, CAPTAIN MILO explores as much emotional territory as many feature films attempt in two hours.

What we are served in the news online and in social media is often cooked up to not only separate nationalities and races but to divide the nations themselves.

As theThe Kids Are Not Alright opens, we hear parents lovingly describe their younger children in almost ideal terms—bright, affectionate, even “like the Gerber baby, a shining kid all along” as one mother recalls. What sets this image in our hearts is not merely the words but a series of videos as these precious kids age and change. Then something shifts. As adolescence sets in, the child they knew becomes harder to reach, at times harder to recognize.
