MANILA, Philippines — National Teachers’ Month is a time to thank, celebrate and prioritize the teachers, said Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara. He was in Cagayan de Oro yesterday for the kick-off celebration of National Teachers’ Month 2026, which started yesterday and will run up to Oct. 5, with the theme, “Teacher, Ikaw Naman.” In a statement, he thanked President Marcos for all his initiatives to improve teachers’ welfare.

President Bongbong Marcos claimed that his family’s excessive wealth was not ill-gotten, saying that they’ve won some civil suits. He mentioned this to the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines, Aug. 14, when asked about the status of his family’s overdue estate tax payments. “The reason we won those civil cases is because they were proven to be not ill-gotten wealth,” he said. Presidential work has been making him neglect his duties as Marcos estate administrator, he added.

President Bongbong Marcos wants Filipinos to believe that his family’s fabulous fortune is not ill-gotten. At a Foreign Correspondents Association luncheon, he objected when a reporter described Marcos assets as ill-gotten. His proof? Civil case victories. “The reason we won those civil cases is because they were proven to be not ill-gotten wealth,” he said. Nice try, Mr. President. But do not play us for fools. Marcos is attempting a Donald Trump maneuver.
