Introduction The adult hematopoietic system arises from the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) that resides in and is supported by the HSC niche within the bone marrow. The HSC niche is a complex, interconnected network of cellular and molecular components within the bone marrow microenvironment (BMME) (Frisch, 2019). A major challenge that hampers progress in the field of the BMME is the lack of a reliable model system that can recapitulate the human bone marrow.
