The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1110 took time to remember the protesters who came before them and continue their protest for a fair contract. International Workers’ Day has taken place on May 1 since the nationwide strike of 1886, which demanded an eight-hour workday in the United States. The rally took place as AFSCME Local 1110 entered day 24 of striking. United Faculty Vice President Keith Pluymers spoke to the crowd of strikers.

ISU students walk out to show solidarity with union workers

As the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1110 continued into its 16th day of striking, students joined the workers in solidarity by walking out of class and marching to demand a fair contract. Students exited their classes at 1 p.m. on Thursday to join AFSCME workers on Schroeder Plaza while carrying signs and blowing whistles. Sophomore psychology and legal studies major Eli Moriarity joined the strikers as students began to exit Schroeder Hall.
