A 68-year-old man was brought into a metropolitan trauma centre following a high speed motorbike accident. He has no significant past medical history. Cross-sectional imaging demonstrated a left sided pneumothorax, multiple bilateral rib fractures and pulmonary contusions. A right sided inguinal hernia containing small bowel was noted and determined to be pre-existing (Fig. 1). A surgical review noted a soft and non-tender abdomen with a non-tender but irreducible right inguinal hernia.
