That feeling — of swimming suicide laps — basically describes how I felt during 14 years of “schooling” between undergraduate, medical school, residency, and fellowship, with the added element of wielding scalpels and delivering babies.

I had visited all of my patients and written all of my notes. The residents were still on the wards, busy.
