I’ve never had a strong attachment to labels such as Hispanic, Mexican, or Latino. I’ve never used those labels unless explicitly asked “What are you?”, but towards the end of high school one label would flip my perspective entirely. I went to an early college high school that was predominantly Hispanic, and it was isolating being a Hispanic kid who didn’t know any Spanish.
