Neurofilament light chain: a biomarker at the crossroads of clarity and confusion for gene-directed therapies
ABSTRACT Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is a promising biomarker for neurodegenerative diseases, measurable in both CSF and blood upon neuroaxonal damage. While CSF analysis was traditionally used, blood-based assays now offer a less invasive alternative. NfL levels correlate with disease severity and progression in conditions like Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis and Huntington's disease.
Morgan State fails to spoil North Carolina Centrals homecoming #
Morgan State fell to North Carolina Central University 16-7 in their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game of the season and North Carolina Central’s running back shined with over 200 total yards. After having extra time to recover from their bye week, the Bears traveled to O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium, home of the North Carolina Central University Eagles, for their first in-conference game of the season. Bone quality following peripubertal growth in a mouse model of transmasculine gender-affirming hormone therapy
Abstract During peri-puberty, bone growth and the attainment peak bone mass is driven predominantly by sex steroids. This is important when treating transgender youth, who have become increasingly present at pediatric clinics. Analogues of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) are commonly prescribed to transgender youth prior to starting gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT). However, the impact of GnRH agonists on long bones with the addition of GAHT is relatively unknown.
SARS-CoV-2: An Update on the Biological Interplay with the Human Host
1. Introduction Coronaviruses are not new viruses to mankind, as Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the third coronavirus outbreak to occur in the last 20 years, following severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2002–2003 and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in 2012 [1].
Characteristics of Phase IV Clinical Trials in Oncology: An Analysis Using the ClinicalTrials.gov Registry Data
1. Introduction Cancer is a complex and devastating illness that impacts millions of lives globally every year. Despite significant advances in cancer treatment, it remains the second leading cause of death worldwide [1]. Phase IV clinical trials in oncology are conducted subsequent to a cancer medication or treatment being cleared for market release.

Cellular immunity against SARS-CoV-2 depends on the serological status
Cellular and humoral immunity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), either naturally acquired or vaccine-elicited, are both essential for limiting acute infections and preventing unfavorable outcomes in those who develop coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Estimating the global prevalence of erectile dysfunction during the COVID-19 pandemic
The article of Adeyemi et al. [1] concluded that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may detrimentally interplay with the male reproductive system during acute infection and recovery, leading to a substantial risk of developing erectile dysfunction.
Serum C reactive protein predicts humoral response after BNT162b2 booster administration
Although vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is now considered the most efficient measure for preventing severe acute coronavirus disease 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections and disease-related complications [], the humoral response to vaccines and its consequent efficacy may be strongly influenced by demographic and clinical variables [].
COVID-19 vaccination and SARS-CoV-2 Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant: a light at the end of the tunnel?
Highlights • SARS-CoV-2 Omicron and vaccination generated -82% hospitalizations • SARS-CoV-2 Omicron and vaccination generated -84% ICU admissions • SARS-CoV-2 Omicron and vaccination contributed to lower SARS-CoV-2 pathogenicity Abstract We retrieved data from the on-line database of the Italian Ministry of Health concerning the previous and ongoing epidemic waves of SARS-CoV-2 in Italy, analyzing prevalence of variants, number of SARS-CoV-2 diagnoses, hospitalization and intensive care unit...
SARS-CoV-2 Omicron infection is associated with high nasopharyngeal viral load
Keywords SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19 Omicron Viral load Infectivity We read with interest the article of Zheng et al. [ [1] Zheng J Wang Z Li J et al. High amounts of SARS-CoV-2 in aerosols exhaled by patients with Omicron variant infection. ], who reported that a high breath emission rate of viral particles may be one of the most important reasons for justifying the higher transmissibility of the new severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant.
Is SARS-CoV-2 Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant causing different symptoms?
Keywords SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19 Omicron Symptoms Variants Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus responsible for the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak, is undergoing a progressive evolution characterized by accumulation of several non-synonymous mutations in its genome, garnered for better adaptation to its human host [].
The strength of association between pre- and post-booster BNT162b2 anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies levels depends on the immunoassay
Highlights • Anticipating COVID-19 vaccines response is essential for predicting effectiveness • Serum antibodies levels correlate between first and second COVID-19 vaccine doses • This association depends on the immunoassay, ranging between 0.40-0.71 ABSTRACT Objectives Reliable evidence suggests that anticipating humoral response to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines is essential for predicting their clinical effectiveness.

Maria Helena Santos de Oliveira, Giuseppe Lippi, Brandon Michael Henry doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2021.03.24.21254046 ABSTRACT Brazil is currently suffering a deadly surge of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections, which has been attributed to the spread of a new strain known as P.1 (B.1.1.28.1).
A Stockton experience in the time of a pandemic
From what had originally seemed a standard (and enjoyable) semester, Stockton University had to take decisive actions in the face of the spreading COVID-19 virus. As news of the virus increased with cases, it began to become clear that the virus was not going to simply go away and that containment efforts were not as successful as hoped.
