Nice Friday before heavy rain returns for part of the weekend
Only a few showers are expected from time to time today with plenty of sunshine. It will be a bit warm and sticky with high temperatures around 87°. Overnight into Halloween, slow moving downpours will start to develop. These will not hit everywhere, so coverage will be at 50%. Those getting the rain could have it for a while and those squeezing in between will see a lot drier weather. The two wetter days look to be Sunday and Monday.
Mostly dry through Friday before rounds of heavy rain set up for Halloween weekend
It’s pretty warm out there today with highs reaching 88° and a touch of humidity. There are a few light showers streaming through, but most will stay dry. This is a similar forecast for Friday. Changes are on the way for the weekend. On Saturday, for Halloween, showers will pick up off the Atlantic. It doesn’t look like a washout, but we will have showers at times with dry weather in between. The rain looks more numerous on Sunday into Monday. Some could be heavy, leading to minor flooding.

King tide floods Hollywood neighborhoods near Stranahan River
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A powerful king tide flooded areas near the West Lake and Holland parks on Tuesday morning in Hollywood. A woman used a kayak to travel Johnson Street near the Stranahan River. Saltwater covered the street at North 10th Avenue. A wind advisory was in effect until 8 p.m. in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
Powerful king tide floods some coastal communities in Broward
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A powerful king tide caused flooding on Tuesday morning in some coastal communities in Broward County. In Fort Lauderdale, the long-time residents of the Riviera Isles community said it was the worst they had seen in decades. Saltwater also invaded the Idlewyld community’s Solar Plaza Drive. Tami Livnat Ruddy, who lives in the neighborhood, said king tide flooding is inevitable. “These are a little higher than we are used to,” Ruddy said.
South Florida hit with the worst coastal flooding since Hurricane Irma in 2017
This is the worst round of king tides we’ve measured in South Florida with levels similar to what we see during some tropical storms or hurricanes. This morning is the peak of this round, reaching major flood stage at 10:31 a.m. The next high tide after this morning is at 10:34 p.m. Tomorrow’s high tides are 11:20 a.m. and 11:23 p.m. We will have spotty showers off the Atlantic today, especially this evening. A wind advisory continues through tonight for wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Strong onshore winds and king tides combine to produce record coastal flooding
PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — A Wind Advisory is in place for gusts up to 40 mph. The timing of this storm system couldn’t be any worse with the peak of king tides ongoing across South Florida. This will lead to significant coastal flooding during times of high tide. High tides are at 9:44 a.m. and 9:48 p.m. today and 10:31 a.m. and 10:34 p.m. tomorrow at Virginia Key. A few showers are possible on the breeze from the Atlantic. Some rain could be heavy at times.

King tide cycle to come with rain and strong winds this weekend in South Florida
PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — The upcoming king tide cycle, rain, and strong winds that will whip up rough ocean waves will worsen weather conditions on Saturday and Sunday in South Florida. During high tide, most of South Floridaâs beaches will be covered with water, and there could be saltwater flooding in some coastal areas. There is a 70% chance of rain on Saturday and an 80% chance of rain on Sunday. Expect batches of downpours on Sunday and Monday.
South Florida prepares for significant king tide flooding and higher rain chances this weekend
A few showers will be around today and Friday, but most of the day will be dry. High temperatures will stay in the middle 80s with only a touch of humidity, so many of us will still feel comfortable. Rain chances increase with batches of downpours off the Atlantic this weekend, especially Sunday and Monday. The bigger issue for South Florida will be increasing winds. Gusts are expected to range from 30-40 mph this weekend with the highest winds on Sunday.
Even lower humidity set to move into South Florida in the middle of the week
Itâs not a bad start to the work week with only a few light showers occasionally rolling in from the Atlantic. Much of the day is dry with high temperatures in the middle 80s. This will be the case the next few days with only a 20% chance of a few showers. Even lower humidity will surge in Tuesday night and Wednesday. It will feel very comfortable with some low temperatures getting very close to the upper 60s in the morning.
Numerous thunderstorms pose a flooding threat for South Florida this weekend
We are only expecting a few spotty downpours Friday night into Saturday morning. By 1-3 p.m. Saturday, we will see the start of widespread thunderstorms. Some rain could be heavy, leading to flooding. These high rain chances will last well into Saturday night. Sunday will bring the possibility of rain at any time of the day, with bands of heavy rain moving in from the Atlantic. The biggest difference will be the strong wind gusts, which could reach 30-40 mph.
Humidity surging back into South Florida ahead of big weekend rains
The last couple days were a nice break from the typical October stickiness, but humidity sharply increased overnight. We could get a shower or two off the Atlantic, but most of Thursday will be dry and sunny. This will be the case tomorrow too with high temperatures near 90 degrees. A high impact storm system is still expected for the weekend. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected Saturday and Sunday. Some rain could be heavy enough to cause flooding.
Humidity starts increasing with a few showers back in the forecast
Only isolated showers are expected today with plenty of dry weather. There will be a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms off the Atlantic Thursday and Friday. It will be noticeably muggier with high temperatures reaching 90°. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected over the weekend. The worst of it is expected Sunday and Monday with 30-40 mph wind gusts. Some downpours could sit and back-build along the coast, leading to a flooding threat.
Lower humidity clears out rain chances for South Florida
A weak front moved through last night, with a slight drop in humidity. This drier air will help us stay mostly sunny all day with plenty of dry weather. If we see a stray shower or two, it would be in the Florida Keys. A few showers are possible tomorrow, but the higher rain chances really ramp up Thursday and Friday with showers at times. Muggy conditions will be returning too. A high impact storm system is possible for part of the weekend into next week. A strong front will stall out over Florida.
Front will bring a slight drop in humidity Tuesday
Itâs another hot and humid day with only an isolated shower or storm. — Itâs another hot and humid day with only an isolated shower or storm. The only meaningful chance of this rain will be in southern Miami-Dade County around Homestead, then south into the Florida Keys. Most of us will be dry. This will be the case for the next couple days with low rain chances. The bigger story will be the lower humidity that will ease in late tonight into Tuesday.

Showers and storms expected to fire up this afternoon
With solid tropical moisture in place on Wednesday afternoon, we have a much higher chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Some could be heavy with a quick 1-2 inches of rain. High temperatures will still reach the upper 80s with a heat index near 100 degrees at times. We will have this pattern on repeat with a high chance of storms developing each day. There are some signs some drier air will move in Sunday through next week with an extended stretch of much drier weather.
Storms return to South Florida this afternoon
After a quiet start to the weekend, a big surge of moisture moving in will spark a round of afternoon thunderstorms. The first ones are expected to develop between 1 p.m.-3 p.m. with the more widespread storms later in the afternoon. Some could produce very heavy rain that leads to minor flooding. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s. Storms will be even more widespread tomorrow and could develop at any point in the day.
Hot and mostly dry start to the week, but things are about to change
High temperatures will reach the low 90s today with a heat index in excess of 100° at times. We could get a small, isolated shower at times, but the bigger thunderstorms will be too far west in the Everglades this afternoon. This storm zone will shift to the East Coast over the metro over the next couple of days with high rain chances for the middle of the week. This will help bring temperatures down a few degrees too.
South Florida returns to drier weather to end the week
After a complete washout on Thursday, we are looking at mostly dry conditions Friday. The exception will be in the lower Keys with a persistent band of thunderstorms there. Key West could see some flooding again. Elsewhere, just an occasional shower or two moving by. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s with thin enough clouds to get some sun filtering through. This nice weather will continue for the weekend with only an isolated shower.
Rounds of heavy rain leading to a higher flood threat this afternoon
Itâs going to be an ugly day with on and off rain moving through. Embedded thunderstorms could produce heavy rain that leads to pockets of flooding. Rich tropical moisture moved in from the Caribbean and will lead to high rain rates as much as 2-3â³+ per hour. Temperatures will stay in the upper 70s and low 80s today with all of the clouds around. Fewer storms are on the way tomorrow into the weekend. It will not be completely dry, but we will have a lot more dry time in between rounds.
South Florida remains in a wet pattern with rounds of thunderstorms on the way
After some parts of South Florida saw flooding yesterday from 1 to 3 inches of rain, more is on the way Wednesday. We are looking at rounds of showers and thunderstorms moving through, with some extended dry breaks in between. Some storms could be strong with gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rain that leads to minor flooding. Tropical moisture will continue to funnel across Florida from the Caribbean. This will keep rain chances high through the rest of the work week.
King tides and showers to cause flooding in areas of South Florida
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — The seasonal king tides are forecast to cause flooding on Tuesday in South Floridaâs coastal areas. The forecast also includes a 70% chance of afternoon scattered thunderstorms.
Humidity increases as storms return to South Florida
It has been a nice few days with lower humidity and no significant rain chance. That has already changed Tuesday with a surge of moisture moving through from the Caribbean. This will spark rounds of showers and thunderstorms at any point Tuesday. Some downpours could contain heavy rain that leads to minor flooding. We will have to watch this potential during high tide since king tides are still filling up the drains near the coast. Next high tides are 11:38 a.m. and 11:40 p.m. at Virginia Key.
One nice day this work week before the pattern flips
Lower than normal humidity continues today with warm sunshine in the upper 80s. Rain chances are at 10%, so nearly all of us will stay dry. Enjoy it while it lasts because higher humidity will rush back in tomorrow. This extra moisture will come with scattered thunderstorms, which will start as early as Tuesday morning in the Florida Keys. It will then spread north through the day. Rain chances will remain high through the week with rounds of thunderstorms at times.
Early season front moves through South Florida with a weekend humidity drop
It will be another warm day with highs in the upper 80s and only a few showers popping up. Thankfully, they will not last long or be widespread enough to cause flooding. We still could see a shower or two on the weekend, mainly Saturday, but the majority of us will stay completely dry. The focus will be on the lower humidity that we will first feel on Saturday with the bulk of it on Sunday.
Sept. 24: Flooding threat ends as we look forward to lower humidity this weekend
We’re not completely done with the rain, but the flooding is over. A few showers and thunderstorms will develop in Palm Beach County late this afternoon, then move south in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. They will be moving through quickly so if you get a shower, don’t expect it to last long. High temperatures will be near 90°. The bigger story for South Florida is a weak front moving through Friday.
Sept. 23: Lingering rain at times today, but the flooding threat is lowering
We still have some reports of minor flooding from clogged drains around the area, but the rain this morning has been mostly light to moderate. This will continue at times this afternoon with a few scattered downpours. We will still have some thunderstorms for the rest of the work week, but there will be fewer of them. Their movement will be faster so the flooding threat stays away. The bigger story for South Florida is a weak front making its way through for the weekend.
Sept. 22: Another round of numerous afternoon thunderstorms sparking flooding concerns
The setup today is very similar to yesterday. We started the day mostly dry, but rising temperatures to the upper 80s will fuel widespread thunderstorms this afternoon. The main threat is very heavy rain and the potential for some storms to back build over certain neighborhoods. This could produce 3-6″ of rain in a short time, leading to localized flooding. Parts of South Florida have seen 10-20″of rain so far this month, so the ground is saturated and can’t absorb additional water quickly.
Sept. 21: Numerous thunderstorms this afternoon could spark another round of flooding
Similar to the last few days, morning sunshine warming us up near 90° will help fire up another round of afternoon storms. Most spots will get rain at some point, but the heaviest could linger over a few areas and produce several inches of rain. These pockets are where we could get some additional flooding. Some storms could also produce strong wind gusts, intense lightning, and even small hail.
Sept. 18: Strong thunderstorms expected to fire up over South Florida this afternoon
Unlike yesterday, we started the day with plenty of sunshine. This will warm us up to 90° this afternoon. There’s also a storm system moving in from the Atlantic that will combine with today’s heating to give us a round of thunderstorms. The first storms will develop between noon-2 p.m. Highest chances will be from 2 p.m.-7 p.m. Some storms could be severe with damaging wind gusts and hail. Since the ground is saturated from recent heavy rain, flooding is also possible.
Sept. 17: Morning flooding in Broward County is the start to another stormy pattern
Parts of South Florida, especially around Fort Lauderdale, have picked up 3-6 inches of rain so far Thursday morning. The worst of the flooding is ending with only spotty downpours off the Atlantic for the rest of the afternoon, although some still could back build along the coast and produce localized areas of heavy rain. More of the same is on the way Friday into the weekend as a storm system north of the Bahamas moves into Florida and stalls out for a few days.
Sept. 16: On and off thunderstorms from the Atlantic
A surge of moisture has been streaming in from the Bahamas and will give us the chance for scattered downpours at any point on Wednesday. There is no way to pinpoint any specific time frame or location, so they will be random. Some areas that get multiple back-to-back storms could see minor flooding. A storm system will move in Friday and stall out through the weekend. This will give us an enhanced chance of scattered thunderstorms each day. It will also bring us cold air above us by the clouds.
Sept. 15: Only a few daytime storms with a surge of downpours expected overnight
Unlike the pattern we’ve been in recently, the highest chance of rain will be after sunset on Tuesday. Only a few storms will develop during the heating of the day with highs in the low 90s. A surge of moisture will move in after 9 p.m. thunderstorms are expected to blossom over the Atlantic before moving onshore. Some storms could have frequent lightning and loud thunder. These will continue into Wednesday morning.
Sept. 14: Fewer storms to start the week; turning more active after Wednesday
While we had decent coverage of thunderstorms over the weekend, some drier air in the atmosphere will work to lower our rain chances today. We will still get some pop-up showers and thunderstorms, just not as many. High temperatures will be a little warmer than average in the lower 90s. The second half of the week turns more active as a storm system moves in from the Atlantic. This will not develop into anything tropical, but it will work to enhance our thunderstorm chances after Wednesday.
Sept. 11: Rounds of widespread thunderstorms continue into the weekend
Friday will be another active weather day for South Florida with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some could produce heavy rain that leads to minor flooding, numerous lightning strikes, and gusty winds. Unlike Thursday when most storms moved through early afternoon and moved west to dry us out, we will have storms at any time Friday or even into tonight. There will be plenty of dry time in between. Thunderstorm chances remain high into the weekend, especially on Saturday.
Sept. 10: Typical September storms continue across South Florida
We’re in a usual rainy season pattern of thunderstorms in the morning through early afternoon, mostly shifting west later in the day. The next round will develop late tonight with more downpours developing along the East Coast. This will be the pattern into the weekend with periods of storms and dry weather in between. High temperatures each day will be around 90°, which is normal for this time of the year. Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com - All rights reserved.
Sept. 9: Typical rainy season pattern continues for South Florida
There has been a batch of showers and a few thunderstorms rolling in from the Bahamas from time-to-time today. Most of this will move through early this afternoon with drier weather later on. High temperatures will reach 92° with some late afternoon sunshine, which is about where we have been every day this week. Rounds of thunderstorms will be more widespread later this week and into the weekend. It will not be a complete washout, but expect periods of storms.
Fewer storms expected on Tuesday after a Labor Day washout
Showers and thunderstorms will develop again on Tuesday afternoon and evening, but don’t expect nearly as many storms as Monday. There will be fewer of them, and they’re expected to be less intense. High temperatures will be in the low 90s, which is only slightly hotter than average. Wednesday will be similar. Later this week, we will have more widespread showers and thunderstorms.
Sept. 4: Rounds of storms continue for the holiday weekend
The timing of the storms today is different from what we’ve been used to this week. We are starting the day with showers and thunderstorms. This will limit our heating today with highs close to 90° and give us less fuel for additional storms later today. This will mean drier weather for the evening commute, which is a big improvement over yesterday. Very high levels of moisture remain for the entire holiday weekend.
Sept. 3: Numerous thunderstorms today could produce frequent lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds
The pattern is on repeat with another round of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Some of these could even last past sunset into tonight. Any areas that get 2-3″ in a short time could see minor flooding. Don’t be surprised to see a few flood advisories issued for those areas. High temperatures will only reach around 90°, which is around average for this time of the year. Very high levels of atmospheric moisture near record levels will linger into the holiday weekend.
Sept. 1: A stormy weather pattern continues in South Florida
The atmosphere above us is locked in with a ton of moisture. This will make it easy for showers and thunderstorms to develop again today. Some could contain frequent lightning and gusty winds. Heavy rain will also be a big feature of the storms this week and pockets of minor flooding will be possible in areas that get 2”+ of rain in a short time. Highest chances will be in the afternoons, but some slow moving storms could develop along the coast early in the evening into the night.
Aug. 31: Rounds of rain to give South Florida some drought relief this week
High temperatures will be around 91° each day, which is only slightly hotter than average for this time of the year. The bigger story will be the daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms. While we don’t have a lot of ingredients for severe weather, there is a chance an isolated storm becomes strong with frequent lightning, gusty winds, and very heavy rainfall. Additional moisture in the middle of the week from the remnants of Dolly could lead to some pockets of minor flooding.
