2023 NHL Draft Diary: Brayden Yager
Hello, hockey fans. What a few days in Nashville it's been. Today was the big day. I actually slept better than I thought I would. Obviously, there's nerves, but it wasn't too bad. We started the day at a special breakfast with the prospects and their parents and that was cool. After that we just kind of hung out with the family. It was pretty calm, talking over with my mom and dad what it was all going to be like.

BUFFALO -- Hi, hockey fans. I'm here at the 2023 NHL Scouting Combine this week. I flew with the guys from Saskatoon into Toronto, and then we bussed to Buffalo and got in Sunday. It was good to see everybody again and kind of get familiar with some new faces. The interviews started Monday. I had 22 total, and it was kind of broken down through the five days. There wasn't too many the first couple days, which was kind of nice. Just get a feel for what the interviews are, kind of that whole process.

Hi hockey fans. It was a tough series against Lethbridge in the opening round of the WHL playoffs. We won the best-of-7 in four games, but it definitely didn't feel like a sweep. It felt like a tough series, and a lot of credit goes to Lethbridge because they play a super-physical and hard game. I thought we got better as the series went on, and obviously having most of our big players back in the lineup, such as goalie Connor Ungar and defenseman Maximus Wanner, was great.

Hi hockey fans: It's getting to crunch time late in the season and clubs are jockeying for playoff position. Right now, we're fourth in the Eastern Conference. We've gone through a little bit of a tough patch of late but we're not going to make excuses. We're going to come out better and we're looking at these last seven games as an opportunity to set ourselves up with home-ice advantage in the postseason and then, most importantly, just feel good about ourselves entering the WHL playoffs.

Hello hockey fans: I'm glad I had an opportunity to participate in the 2023 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Langley, British Columbia, last month. It was a crazy experience; obviously all the cameras were following the players around for the interviews. I don't know how many interviews I had, exactly, but I'd say more than 10 for sure on media day (Jan. 24), so it was a lot. The most popular question I got was about Connor Bedard.

Happy New Year, hockey fans. I have a lot to say in this month's diary, including my thoughts on Canada's victory at the World Junior Championship. I'll start with our team in Moose Jaw. We've been doing a pretty good job, but I think there's always room for a little bit of improvement. When our group plays against teams at the bottom of the standings, we seem to maybe take a little bit for granted. I think that's a little bit of the preparation side of the game.

Hi hockey fans. I think we've been doing a really good job lately as a team; we're 7-3 in our past 10 games. I just think the road trip we went on was really good for us as a group because being on the bus and just spending a ton of time together, gelling as a group, has really brought us even tighter and I think it's kind of showing on the ice how close of a team we are.

Hi hockey fans. To start the diary this month, I thought I'd talk about our team. This past week and a half was a step in the right direction. We went on a four-game winning streak but it came to an end Oct. 29 when we lost 6-2 to Tri-City. There's been a lot of high expectations for us this year, so I think we're heading in the right direction.

Hi hockey fans. It's going to be fun providing you with a monthly diary on what's happening in my life and at Moose Jaw this season. I'm very much looking forward to it. My parents put me on skates when I was 4 years old and I kind of just developed a love for the game at a young age. I'd sit down and watch NHL games with my dad and mom. My dad (Cam) played goalie for the Detroit Falcons in [1993-94] in the Colonial Hockey League.
