What was your first job as a journalist?
My first job as a journalist was in high schoo as I worked for the yearbook team, and due to a lot of issues wrote very limited work outsidel
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, only once, my grandmother had a typewriter she wrote bank statements with before computers were invented.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
My favorite fictional journalist has to be Trent Crimm off of the show "Ted Lasso"
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being a journalist first and foremost means telling the honest fact society is a cruel world and pay attention to more than yourself.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
Before the IU/Purdue basketball game in 2021, fans wrote #PuckFurdue before tipoff as IU beat Purdue by three points that night.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Microsoft Word, Grammarly at points, a lot of word of mouth while editing, Canon T6i camera, Bluetooth microphone.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter can be toxic, so I like Instagram because you can profile athletes and learn a thing or two about their lives no one sees.
Who do you wish followed you?
Tom Rinaldi because I admire him as a broadcaster and love him even more as a journalist through ESPN and have always admired his work.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, I did write in the high school newspaper as I was a columnist and a beat reporter for the company.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I am proud of the story I worked on about a junior college student who was diagnosed with autism that ran track and cross country.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't overwhelm yourself with ideas on stories, and always know that editors might not always accept your ideas. Communicate and relatable
When's the best time to pitch you?
The best time to pitch me is when an idea sparks, or whenever a meeting sparks some creative imagination. Make the story authentic is key.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
When I got the opportunity to interview an IU professor who became the first Black woman to win a community award in Monroe County.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
The worst pitch was when I interviewed a weird artist in Bloomington who found some art pieces sitting from the Smithsonian bookstore.
What's your favorite drink?
I love to drink lemonade in the summer, but I go clean and drink water.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Daily Wire, I love reading from other news sources that are conservative in view as I loved working for the Campus Reform.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That I am a writer who tries to pay attention to the surroundings around him as I love to work on studying nature while writing.
