Another surge of moisture from the south will keep active weather going to start the work week. This layer of moisture will be deep and bring heavy rain across central, southern, and eastern Utah for Monday. The Flash Flood potential will be high. That moisture moves northward through Monday, giving a good chance for thunderstorms later in the day. Forecast: Salt Lake City Sunday Night: Partly cloudy and cooler. Low: 59 Monday: Increasing clouds with afternoon thunderstorms.

Active weather is expected throughout most of the state as an ample amount of moisture is in the atmosphere under a monsoon flow and moisture from the remnants of a Tropical Cyclone coming in from Southern California. In addition, a weak cool front is sweeping in giving further instability to generate potential severe weather. Flooding has been occurring throughout central and eastern Utah through the day.

A growing weather story is capturing attention across the West as forecasters continue monitoring the possibility of a developing Super El Niño. While the climate pattern forms thousands of miles away in the tropical Pacific Ocean, its effects can significantly influence winter weather across Utah and the rest of the United States. El Niño occurs when sea surface temperatures near the equator in the Pacific Ocean become warmer than average.
