Abstract Scaling up the computational space of a quantum system is necessary to demonstrate quantum algorithmic advantage. Currently, including more information carriers is still a physical challenge in general. A less explored avenue for scaling up the computational space involves utilizing the rich energy level structure of a trapped ion to encode multi-level qudits rather than two-level qubits.

Oxford Dictionary’s newest ‘Word of the Year’ promotes ‘brain-rot’

Oxford Dictionary recently decided on the newest Word of the Year, ‘brain-rot’, which seems fitting as new slang has become increasingly popular among younger generations, particularly Gen Z. This new slang essentially consists of made up words and phrases that are either shortened versions of actual words, or completing made up words that only mean something to those “in the know”. These new words and phrases are described as ‘brain rot’ due to their simplistic and superficial meanings.
