How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Tailor them to me, just like I have to tailor mine to editors! Don't pitch me off-beat. And consider my previous work first!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Pitch often but tailor your pitches. Only write what you're passionate about. Know who to pitch and be able to explain the five Ws.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Access to The Chicks—because it took into account where I'd been writing recently (ELLE) and what I like to cover/write.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On a walk around my neighborhood in Brooklyn thinking about ideas for my next good pitch!
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That it's fluff, especially in 2020. It's far from it. Entertainment is what drives the cultural conversation and keeps it going, too.
