On Friday morning, the Avs re-signed both Brent Burns and Brett Kulak. Burns was on a one-year contract worth $850,000, and Kulak is on a five-year contract worth $4.5 million AAV. By signing the pair of defensemen, the Avs will bring back all six of their defensemen from last season.

There is now another hole to fill in the Avs’ roster after the move. Nichushkin departs the Avalanche after a revitalization of his career. His spell with the Dallas Stars did not end well before ending up in Colorado.

As we near the NHL Draft this weekend, reports are picking up about whether the Colorado Avalanche are moving Valeri Nichushkin. Colorado has very little in the way of signing players at the NHL level. Jack Drury will be the biggest name that they will have to take care of this offseason. Otherwise, the Avs will have to fill the ranks for the Colorado Eagles.
