One of West Vancouver’s most prominent vistas will soon have a bespoke piece of public art crafted by one of the community’s most prominent artists. District of West Vancouver council voted unanimously June 8 to commission Standing on Shoulders, an 11-foot tall aluminum sculpture by artist Martha Sturdy, in Horseshoe Bay Park.

The District of West Vancouver is looking to replace two of its popular but aging facilities. The municipality is seeking consultants who can help advise council on replacement options for the 60-year-old West Vancouver Ice Arena and 46-year-old Seniors’ Activity Centre. As council members prepared to address the agenda item on June 8, the chamber filled up with young hockey players eager for an update on a facility that their grandparents might have skated in.

Techno music festival coming to West Vancouver's Ambleside Park

West Vancouver’s Ambleside Park will be pulsing with electronic music and mind-bending digital imagery Aug. 29 as the waterfront destination hosts the SOULRISE Music Festival. The show will be the Canadian debut of ÆDEN, an audiovisual experience by headliner Anyma, who left minds blown at this year’s Coachella festival in California. Also on the bill are melodic techno favourites ARGY, Kevin de Vries, Korolova, Son of Son and Daijo.
