| Nature Verified
Abstract Increased inflammation and abnormal placentation are common features of a wide spectrum of pregnancy-related disorders such as intra uterine growth restriction, preeclampsia and preterm birth. The inflammatory response of the human placenta has been mostly investigated in relation to cytokine release, but the direct molecular consequences on trophoblast differentiation have not been investigated.

Regulation of HBEGF by Micro-RNA for Survival of Developing Human Trophoblast Cells

|
By Chandni V. Jain, Philip Jessmon, Brian A. Kilburn, Meritxell Jodar
| PLOS
The growth factor HBEGF is upregulated post-transcriptionally in the low O environment of the human placenta during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. We have examined the possible roles of HBEGF turnover and micro-RNA (miRNA) in its regulation by O in human first trimester trophoblast. HTR-8/SVneo trophoblast cells were cultured at 2% or 20% O .
