Brandon Brooks eager to dominate on line for Eagles - The Philadelphia Tribune: Sports
This will be his first in-game appearance as an Eagle. Brooks signed a five-year contract with the Eagles as a free agent. He played his first four years of his career with the Houston Texans who drafted him in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Brooks, a 6-foot-5, 335-pounder, will have a chance to roll up his sleeves and help the Eagles offense get into high gear. “I’m just trying to go out there each day and get better,” Brooks said. “I’m trying to dominate each and every play up front.
Yes, Virginia, there is tanking in baseball
In Monday’s column, I listed the growing industry issue of teams tanking seasons as one of 10 storylines to watch for in 2016. In response, John Stolnis insists in this piece that the Philadelphia Phillies are not tanking. He also misses the point of the larger issue. As written here many times in the past about the success of the Houston Astros and the Chicago Cubs: It’s a strategy that can work, if the teams pick the right players when they are positioned at or near the top of the draft.
Wait 'Til Next Year: Phillies tear it down in awful 2015 season
While so much of our day-to-day attention in this space is devoted to the teams still battling for playoff spots, we feel as though it’s only fitting to acknowledge the teams that have been mathematically eliminated from contention, giving them a brief sendoff that should suffice until hot stove season. Thus, the Wait ‘Til Next Year series. First up: The Philadelphia Phillies.
Blown call shows umpires still struggle on home plate collision rule
Rule 7.13, the rule prohibiting home plate collisions, reared its head again on Thursday night, turning what looked like a sure out at home into the go-ahead run for the Reds in a game they ultimately won, 6–4, over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
On the Pirates: Vance Worley now the man in the middle
New York Mets manager Terry Collins gathered his starting rotation in the cramped visiting manager’s office at PNC Park last Saturday and delivered the news the Mets would be moving to a six-man rotation. It was a bit of a “sell job,” Collins admitted later. “And there might be bumps in the road down the way,” because starters are creatures of habit used to a regimented routine.
Pirates lose, 4-2, split series in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA — Aaron Harang, the Philadelphia Phillies veteran right-hander, blanked the Pirates over eight innings this afternoon, lowering his season ERA to 2.03, and the Phillies’ early lead held up in a 4-2 win at Citizens Bank Park. After taking the first two games of the road series with ease, the Pirates (17-18) dropped the next two to fall a game under .500. It was a new uniform, but the same result for Harang (4-3).

Here are the Opening Day payroll obligations of each team from highest to lowest, starting with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are paying six players (including $18,000,000 to Matt Kemp, traded to San Diego) more than the entire payroll of 21 MLB teams. Figures courtesy of Cot's Baseball Contracts.

Phillies' Cliff Lee says career could be over if surgery needed
MLB Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee said his career could possibly be over if it is determined he needs surgery on his left elbow, according to ESPN. Lee is currently waiting for a second opinion on his elbow by Dr. James Andrews after experiencing discomfort after throwing two innings in his spring debut last Thursday.
Phillies have options to fill pitching need
The groundwork is being laid for an important Phillies offseason. The General Manager Meetings are currently underway in Phoenix this week, a precursor to December's Winter Meetings in San Diego where trades and free agent deals often get worked out. Starting pitching is the Phillies' most glaring need since they have few options within their minor league system.
