Padres' Tatis homers twice, robs Lindor of grand slam in win
NEW YORK -- Fernando Tatis Jr. robbed New York's Francisco Lindor of a grand slam and hit two homers, leading the San Diego Padres to a 5-2 win over the Mets on Tuesday night. Tatis hit the first pitch from Zac Thornton 452 feet into the second deck in left field for his team-record 18th career leadoff homer. Tatis added a two-run homer off Thornton in the fifth. He has 15 homers after opening the season without a longball in his first 238 at-bats.
Brewers tie largest shutout since 1900 with 22-0 win over M's
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers matched baseball's modern-era record for the biggest shutout, beating the Seattle Mariners 22-0 on Tuesday night behind three-run homers from Christian Yelich, David Hamilton and Luis Lara and a two-run shot by Jake Bauers. The major league-best Brewers (78-48) matched a franchise record for runs in a game. Since 1901, the only previous 22-0 victories were by Pittsburgh over the host Chicago Cubs on Sept. 16, 1975 and by Cleveland at the New York Yankees on Aug.
Stanford names ex-Michigan QB Davis Warren as starter Original
Stanford has named Davis Warren, a transfer from Michigan, as its starting quarterback to open the 2026 season. New Cardinal coach Tavita Pritchard announced the decision Tuesday, telling reporters that Warren's preparation and dedication to the finer details of the position helped him land the job. Warren, who started nine games for Michigan in 2024, had been competing with senior Dylan Rizk, freshman Michael Mitchell Jr. and others in camp. The Cardinal open the season Aug.

TORONTO -- Kelsey Mitchell scored 16 points in the first quarter and finished with 29 before sitting out the fourth, Caitlin Clark added 24 points and the Indiana Fever beat the Toronto Tempo 101-95 on Tuesday for their fifth straight victory. Clark and Mitchell have each scored 20 or more in the same game 16 times this season, a WNBA record. Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter did it 15 times with Phoenix in 2008.
Umpire Jordan Baker exits with concussion symptoms after ball hits mask
CLEVELAND -- Plate umpire Jordan Baker came out before the top of the fifth inning of the San Francisco Giants' game against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night because of concussion symptoms after taking a foul ball off the mask earlier in the game. Major League Baseball said in a statement that Baker was being evaluated under its concussion protocols. Baker took a foul ball off the mask during an at-bat by San Francisco's Andrew Knizner during the second inning.
Multiple brawls mar Saints-Cowboys joint practice session
OXNARD, Calif. -- The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints joint practice session devolved into a WWE-style brawl Tuesday. Punches were thrown, helmets were tossed and at one point, Saints tight end Brock Rechsteiner, son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, grabbed a Cowboys player and body-slammed him to the turf. That scuffle happened after Cowboys cornerback Caelen Carson punched Rechsteiner, who was then yanked around by the facemask as teammates poured in.
LIV players have mixed feelings after meeting proposed investor
WESTFIELD, Ind. -- At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, every member of the LIV Golf league sauntered up to the Chatham Hills clubhouse, where CEO Scott O'Neil and the league's proposed new investor awaited. Dodgers place Diaz on IL, watch Ohtani throw in bullpen
DENVER -- The Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday put scuffling closer Edwin Diaz on the injured list because of inflammation in the right side of his neck, while four-time MVP Shohei Ohtani progresses toward a return to the mound. Diaz, who is 2-2 with an 11.85 ERA and seven saves in 11 opportunities in 16 games in his first season with the Dodgers, returned to Los Angeles on Tuesday and will have imaging on his neck. "It's kind of something that he felt [Monday] night," manager Dave Roberts said.
