What was your first job as a journalist?
Stringing for a weekly in Saugerties, NY doing features and covering a planning board.
How is social media changing news?
It is increasingly allowing anyone to break news anytime, anywhere and in any format.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being a journalist means to strive to enlighten, inform and shine light on things that matter most to the communities you cover.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Via email, although not incessantly,
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use an iPhone equipped with iMovie to do all of my video work on the web, and to post to social media during breaking news events

Why did you become a journalist?
I enjoy being able to come to work knowing no two days are going to be alike. And I just enjoy getting out and meeting new people.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did. I was a reporter for the Sawyer Spirit at Saugerties High School in Saugerties, NY
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Any hard news features that take a lot of leg work and research
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
That you have to be ready to do almost anything in today's newsroom. You can't just expect to only have one beat for your whole career.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Around 9 a.m. early in the week.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Any pitch email that contains "for immediate release" as the subject line, is loaded with the same tired adjectives, or has 50 inches of copy

Dr Pepper

The New York Times
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That a cops shift is always the most exciting shift.
