Discussions continue around the topic of water districts and the challenges they face. Georgia de la Garza, local resident and community organizer, is hosting a town hall meeting Tuesday after a postponed meeting earlier this month on the issue. Newly appointed State Representative Scott Doody for the 118th district added to the conversation over the weekend by providing assurances on Facebook that water districts will not merge and become privatized. Rural hospitals navigate changes one year after passage of One Big Beautiful Bill Act

One year ago Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The bill signed by President Trump last July 4th made deep cuts to Medicaid. The bill also created the Rural Health Transformation Program which will provide $50 billion over the next 5 years. The fund is meant to be split among the states to offset the cuts to Medicaid. Hospitals are still working out what these cuts mean and their impacts.
