Abstract The annual onset of breeding activity by animals in seasonal environments is often accompanied by auditory signals such as stridulations in insects and vocalizations in birds, mammals, and anurans. In ectotherms, the seasonal timing of such activity by males signals to females the general favorability of environmental conditions for reproduction.

UPDATE: National Weather Service confirms tornado near Rollingstone was EF1

May 22—ROLLINGSTONE, Minn. — The tornado that touched down in Winona County on Tuesday evening was an EF1, according to the National Weather Service. The tornado was confirmed at 6:11 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, near Rollingstone, about 9 miles west of Winona. In an update on Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service in La Crosse said the tornado reached peak wind speeds of around 105 mph. According to NOAA, EF1 tornadoes reach speeds of up to 110 mph.

City of Goodhue to reach out to county as police department out of officers

Aug. 14—GOODHUE, Minn. — By Aug. 24, 2023, the city of Goodhue will be without any police officers on staff. Monday, the city council accepted the resignations of Police Chief Josh Smith and full-time officer Anthony Brecht. Five part-time officers also resigned, leaving Goodhue without any police officers for its police department. "We no longer have a police force," said Goodhue Mayor Ellen Anderson Buck.
