These 5 marks of a man are a path toward better, more meaningful life Original
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Who we deem worthy of compassion says more about us than almost anything else. It compels us to donate to charities, give canned goods to food banks and drop coins into the bell ringer’s basket at Christmas. But in America, compassion has its limits. Want to see compassion sucked right out of the room? Mention men. But if we feel compassion for populations that are hurting, left behind and in trouble, men must be included.
Dream Big
When I was a boy, I had one simple goal: an easy day. That’s why I didn’t want the academic rigors of college and why, when I finally decided to go to college, I didn’t actually go to class. It’s also why I racked up a terrible amount of credit card debt in my early twenties. It’s also why I stayed in a predictable job for too long. It took me seven years to finish my four-year degree. I took Accounting 1 three times.

We feel compassion for children in third world countries, whose lives are ripped apart by warfare and natural disasters, so we donate money to worthy charities.

Garage Bible Study: How to Be Great (Episode 48)
Thanks! Check your inbox for our newest content. Media Videos Garage Bible Study: How to Be Great (Episode 48) Modern Christian culture would have us thinking that wanting to be “great” means we have some sort of delusion or spiritual affliction. In today’s Garage Bible Study, Brian Tome shares about what happens when James and John approach Jesus regarding their own greatness, and how Jesus’ response to them doesn’t fit with either modern Christian culture OR popular culture.
Why Are Men Disappearing from Church?
By Brian Tome, Crosswalk.com Look around your church on Sunday morning. On average, men make up only 30% of the room. Estimates are that as much as 90% of all Christian books are bought by women. These are either books targeted directly to women, or books women are buying and targeting to the men in their life. The disappearance of men from Christianity isn’t happening by accident. Unfortunately, consumerism and market influences do affect the church.

The hustle of a dad
The Tome family has a motto that every member can quote and every member currently lives up to. Share with others Tomes hustle. We aren’t the most talented or best-looking, but when we fail it is never because we gave up. We hustle. Maybe I was so drawn to that motto because it was something that helped remind me of what a good dad does. We hustle. I’m ashamed to say that my youngest child got the least amount of hustle from me.
The Lamborghini isn't the problem
(Screenshot: Relentless Church)Pastor John Gray preaches at Relentless Church, Nov. 25, 2018. I don't own a Lamborghini. I own a Chevy truck that is just starting to show some rust. I don't have a deal for a program on Oprah's network, nor do I get invited to speaking gigs that pay thousands of dollars. Yet I can identify with John Gray, who made the news recently for gifting his wife a Lamborghini for their 8th anniversary with money he made from a variety of income streams.

Opinion: It's time to rethink how we are raising our boys
Why do we have so many guys from the college campus to the corporate C-Suite to the Hollywood and political elite dishonoring and devaluing women? As stories of boys behaving badly continue, we can no longer only ask what is wrong with them. This isn’t just a story about an individual. It’s about a sizable segment of the male population in America. Our culture is scarred with the need for males to leave boyhood and become real men.
Straight from the Source: What other churches can learn from Willow Creek
Editor’s note: Brian Tome is founding and senior pastor of Cincinnati-based Crossroads Church, with 30,000 weekly attendees and 21 locations throughout Ohio and Kentucky. It's an awful thing when a woman, let alone multiple women, are hurt by a male leader. It is equally egregious when an organization doesn't appear to leap to a woman's defense regardless of the consequences.

Opinion: Understanding our culture of death
Two cultural icons have died: Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. I’ve known people who have ended their lives, so I can only imagine the weight on the shoulders of those close to them. The loved ones left behind end up ping-ponging back and forth between tears and anger. A life that ends too soon is an exhausting reality for too many people. I’m pissed about the numbers of people who are killing themselves. People die every day and no one is immune to death.

Ask a Master Gardner: Get rid of tomato pests without chemicals
I have some tomato plants that are being eaten by small black caterpillars with faint white stripes on their back. Last year, I had big green worms that devoured almost all my plants. Can I get rid of these pests without using chemicals? What do you recommend?First, kudos to you for avoiding the use of pesticides. Natural or organic pest control methods are a bit more difficult to implement, but they are more effective and safer for your family and the environment. Now, let’s talk about those worms.
