MANILLA, Iowa — Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rob Sand named Crawford County Supervisor and rural farmer Dave Muhlbauer as his running mate as the pair move into a competitive general election. At his family farm, tucked into the rolling hills of western Iowa, Muhlbauer told the Des Moines Register he's excited to join Sand's ticket and help chart a course for change in Iowa. "I do think local government is closest to the people, boots on the ground. So we hear things firsthand," he said.

Andy Beshear 'all in' on helping Rob Sand win Iowa governor's race

June 8, 2026, 6:24 a.m. CT Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear hyped up Iowa Democrats on behalf of Rob Sand on Sunday, June 7, promising that Democrats can win in red states without sacrificing their values. “I am living, breathing proof that Democrats can win anywhere, and we should be fighting everywhere,” said Beshear, who is also the chair of the Democratic Governors Association. He promised that he is “all in” on helping Sand get elected in 2026.
