Is it too late to bring Artificial Intelligence (AI) to a screeching halt, before we are all unemployed or are wiped out by our new masters? It is not merely a matter of slowing things down until we can get a handle on AI that is going to get smarter than us. What’s at stake is our existence as a species, not whether AI uses too much electricity or water. The AI question kinda snuck up on me, which is embarrassing for a sci-fi uber geek like myself.

I just finished Ken Burns’ documentary series, “The American Revolution,” and I have to agree with his assessment that our nation’s founding is complicated, violent, and would leave some of today’s citizens — like me — with mixed feelings about winners and losers, and key players in the conflict. Black slaves were promised freedom if they fought for the British. Native tribes were offered protection from the land-hungry Americans if they fought for the British.

Time For Some Good News

Trying to keep up with the continuous Trump assaults on the Constitution, Latinos and Blue cities facing military occupations, is a little like taking a sip of water from an open fire hydrant. Trump has blown through so many red lines, that taken together, they bear a remarkable resemblance to the red carpet rolled out for Putin. All together, it is more than tiring, but exhausting. That’s why good news, real good news is so valuable and encouraging – recharging our hopes and optimism.
