I’ve always wrestled with the idea of spiritual discipline and spiritual practice, and reading The Discipline of Inspiration offered me a way to name how my writing corresponds to my spiritual life. The current legislative session in Tallahassee has seen a number of bills advancing through the House and Senate that should raise significant concerns for Florida’s people of faith, especially those who follow some version of the Golden Rule. This slate of bills seeks to suppress the truth about Black history, structural racism, reproductive health care, LGBTQIA+ reality and the purposes of public education, through a vast expansion of the surveillance state.

In this collaboration, pastors McCleneghan (Ministry with Families, Union Church, Hinsdale, IL) and Jackson (Faith Presbyterian Church, Greensboro, NC) aim to equip parents with “tools to think critically about what you believe” and “to develop language and practices that communicate your values to your kids.” The book accomplishes this by allowing experts to cover topics in the following areas: bodies and souls, families and relationships, loss, fear and courage, faith, and money and economics.
