The Impact of Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on Behavioral and Reward-Related Outcomes
1 Introduction The rising prevalence of obesity in children and adults is a major global health concern (Chang et al. 2014; Afshin et al. 2017; Smith and Smith 2016), affecting up to 35% of adults in some developed countries (Afshin et al. 2017; Smith and Smith 2016).

Lactobacillus maintains IFNγ homeostasis to promote behavioral stress resilience
This is a preprint. It has not yet been peer reviewed by a journal. The National Library of Medicine is running a pilot to include preprints that result from research funded by NIH in PMC and PubMed. Display options Abstract The gut microbiome consists of the trillions of bacteria, fungi, and viruses that inhabit the digestive tract. These communities are sensitive to disruption from environmental exposures ranging from diet changes to illness.
Arachnid aloft: directed aerial descent in neotropical canopy spiders
1. Introduction The tropical rainforest canopy supports tremendous macroarthropod abundance and diversity [1]. Volant inhabitants of the canopy can readily fly to escape predators or to pursue dispersed resources despite living 30 m or more above the ground. By contrast, wingless arthropods dwelling within tree crowns face significant hazards if they fall to the forest floor.
The wings before the bird: an evaluation of flapping-based locomotory hypotheses in bird antecedents
Discussion A major challenge of attempting to create models that examine evolutionary transitions is that of efficiency versus effectiveness. Evolved traits may need to only function at some basic level, rather than contribute high degrees of functional adaptation. Thus, an argument against our use of thresholds, such as a 6% body weight support as the minimum for WAIR, is that smaller values, such as 5% or even 1%, may still provide selective advantages for individuals.
