Low-Dose Aspirin: Benefits, Risks, and Who Should Take It
Studies suggest that low-dose aspirin can help protect against heart attack and stroke. Given that these serious events are common in people ages 65 and older, it would seem to make sense that they all should take the drug as a protective strategy. For years, older adults were advised to do just that, but more recently, the advice on daily aspirin therapy has changed due to research highlighting the drug’s side effects, which include a significant risk of internal bleeding.
Cardiomyopathy: Symptoms, Causes, Types, and Treatment
You probably have heard of heart failure, but are you familiar with the conditions that can cause it? Cardiomyopathy is one of them, and it can result in other serious cardiac complications, too. Surgery Often Is the Best Solution for Aortic Valve Stenosis
Each year, about 3% of older Americans are diagnosed with aortic valve stenosis. The condition forces your heart to work harder than it should, but because this extra exertion initially is asymptomatic, you may not be aware that your heart is beginning to struggle when it comes to pumping oxygen-rich blood to your body. If aortic stenosis symptoms become noticeable, you may be able to alleviate them with lifestyle modifications and medications.
REMEMBERING ONE OF THE Good Guys', Coach Bob Barth
By Bruce Darrow CNB News Sports Reporter BROOKLAWN, NJ --There are times when writing a story you need more than words. Readers must be able to envision what is being written. Enjoyment in reading comes with the great ability to put yourself in the place and time that is being written. Listen to the Phillies on the radio; you can actually see the beads of sweat dripping from a pitcher as he approaches a batter with the game on the line. A swing and a miss can be visualized.
Marion McCarty Brown former Alice Costello Prinicpal
by Bruce Darrow | CNBNews Contributor In 1968 a young teacher came to Alice Costello School. As a 14 year old I fell in love with this young teacher. We remained friends from that day forward. As my family grew so did our relationship. In the cold of winter or extreme heat of summer we would meet her with my family at Manco & Manco for pizza in Ocean City. Upon her retirement she spent her winters in Florida where I would spend a week for Austin's spring baseball game.
REST IN PEACE COACH BARTH
The Barth family in Brooklawn is what sports are all about. Not just baseball but basketball and even Wiffleball. Few know that Joe “Pop” Barth coached a grammar school basketball team in the late 1960’s that won 102 games while losing only 2. Son Dennis Barth is known for his baseball coaching but did an excellent job as the Gloucester Catholic Rams Basketball coach. Anytime you needed any information about coaching you contacted a Barth for their opinion. But, one Barth stood out against the rest.
