Bruce Lowitt was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He began his journalism career in 1965 with the Daily Item in Port Chester, New York. He joined The Associated Press in 1967 and moved to The AP’s New York Sports Department in 1970, eventually becoming Pro Football Editor and, later, a national sports features writer covering Super Bowls, World Series, Olympic Games, NBA and college basketball and football championships, the Indianapolis 500 and U.S. Open Tennis.
