1 Introduction Generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) is changing how medical students search for information, generate explanations, organise study plans and prepare for clinical learning [1, 2]. These tools are widely available outside formal curricula, so students may use them before clerkship directors, faculty and institutions have established shared expectations for appropriate use.
