Have you ever used a typewriter?

I have a typewriter collection, including a 1929 Underwood.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use what's available. I have an entry level recorder, a mid-level camera, and thankfully Adobe CS6, paid for by my college tuition.

What's your favorite social network?

I love Twitter, but it's a network for preaching to the choir. For engaging an audience, I stick to Facebook.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Often, when I'm struggling for a lede, I'll look up idioms around the main subject of the story. It's not great, but it's a start.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

I'm usually near a computer, but when I'm not, I'm reading fiction on the couch, but I love hiking, biking, and camping.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I loved everything about the quirky food mag, Lucky Peach, but among the living, I read Esquire, Eater, and The New Yorker.
