New EU rules on AI deepfakes and chatbots

New EU rules on artificial intelligence come into force from today which mean that deepfakes and other AI-generated content must be labelled. Companies are also now obliged to make it clear if customers are dealing with an AI chatbot as opposed to a human. The EU AI Act became law two years ago but its provisions are taking effect on a phased basis. The new rules that begin from today place transparency obligations on companies using artificial intelligence.

New hybrid working appeals process at AIB

Updated / Friday, 31 Jul 2026 18:21 The Financial Services Union expects in the region of 700 appeals to be heard over the coming months An appeals process has commenced for staff at AIB whose hybrid working requests are refused. As part of negotiations between AIB and the Financial Services Union (FSU) on the bank's new hybrid working model, it was agreed that an external appeals process would be established. Appeals will now be heard by an independent third party, Stratis Consulting.

Lyft acquires Dublin's Lynk and Limerick's Swift taxi services

Updated / Friday, 31 Jul 2026 13:06 Freenow was bought by Lyft last year and it now operates across nine European markets Lyft, through Freenow by Lyft, has announced the acquisition of Dublin's Lynk taxis, and Limerick's Swift taxi service. Lynk is a longstanding Dublin-based phone-booking taxi dispatcher and transport service provider to the public sector and hundreds of local businesses.
