Prioritizing parents from global genebanks to breed climate-resilient crops - Nature Climate Change
Abstract Crop diversity is an essential resource for global breeding programmes aimed at climate resilience. However, adaptation depends both on whether genetic diversity exists and if it is accessible. Here we consider the biological and social risks of crop adaptation at global and national levels using 1,937 publicly available genotyped and georeferenced accessions of sorghum, a staple crop for subsistence farmers.

Interested in Fine-tuning Your Irrigation Decisions? Try the Free Online Irrigation Management Assistant (IMA) Tool
By Vasudha Sharma and Bryan Runck The Irrigation Management Assistant (IMA) tool utilizes soil, weather, crop type, and user input data to provide an automated daily recommendation for efficient irrigation scheduling. After rolling out the free online tool to growers in several Minnesota counties last year, the tool is now available to growers interested in efficiently managing their irrigation statewide.
Minnesota: Irrigation Management Tool Update - Protecting Privacy While Providing Real-Time Modeling

The hidden land use cost of upscaling cover crops
Abstract Cover cropping is considered a cornerstone practice in sustainable agriculture; however, little attention has been paid to the cover crop production supply chain.

Kantar Published: December 26, 2019 https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0227079 Figures Abstract Since the mid-20th century, crop breeding has driven unprecedented yield gains. Breeders generally select for broadly- and reliably-performing varieties that display little genotype-by-environment interaction (GxE).
Take a walk on the wild side
Climate change is expected to severely impact farming in sub-Saharan Africa. Now research shows that crop wild relatives might be able to secure Africa’s existing cropping practices by providing the genetic diversity needed to adapt crops to climates that they have never seen before. Declining spatial efficiency of global cropland nitrogen allocation
Efficiently allocating nitrogen (N) across space maximizes crop productivity for a given amount of N input and reduces N losses to the environment. Here we quantify changes in the global spatial efficiency of cropland N use by calculating historical tradeoff frontiers relating N inputs to possible N yield assuming efficient allocation.
